King Sejong Institute

University of South Australia’s King Sejong Institute - a hub for Korean culture in Adelaide

The University of South Australia’s King Sejong Institute is a hub for Korean culture, business and language education in Adelaide – in 2016, it was one of only nine hubs in the world to be awarded, and the only one in Australia. The institute builds upon already productive research and student exchange relationships with Korea and spearheads a local focus on the language and culture of what is one of the most innovative economies in the world today.

The King Sejong Institute (KSI) builds upon the work undertaken within the UniSA Business School’s Australian Centre for Asian Business, an active centre focused on creating research connections and undertaking research in relation to Korea, as well as our Asia-Pacific Centre for Arts and Cultural Leadership, a collaboration with the Adelaide Festival Centre, which is establishing partnerships with performing and visual arts in Korea.

Korea is a high priority in UniSA’s global engagement strategy, as a country with great scientific and technological research and of growing importance in the Asia Pacific. UniSA has formed close ties with several Korean universities including:

  • Seoul National University
  • Sogang University
  • Chung-Ang University
  • The Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology
  • Sookmyung Women’s University
  • The Seoul National University of Education.

Several UniSA students have studied in Korea under projects funded by the Australian Government’s signature New Colombo Plan program.

Collaboratively operated by UniSA and the Korean Cultural Centre Australia, the KSI will support Australian – and especially South Australian - companies to be better equipped to do business in Korea. This will be a special mission for the KSI at UniSA.

In addition to research, and in recognition of the importance of Australians learning more about Korea and becoming proficient in Korean language, the Institute also offers Korean language and culture classes.
