ABOUT 3MT

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by the University of Queensland (UQ). The competition challenges research candidates to explain their thesis topic and its significance in a compelling three-minute presentation, in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience and using one PowerPoint slide.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.

ELIGIBILITY

  • As of 1 January 2019, participation in 3MT is compulsory for all final year Business Research students (PhD Students in their third year and Masters students in their second year), except those who have already participated.
  • To be eligible, students must have successfully submitted their research proposal by the date of the Business School finals.
  • Masters by Research students must participate in the Business School finals, but are not eligible to progress to the UniSA Grand Final.

PRIZES

PhD Winner: $500 Visa Debit Card
PhD Runner-up: $250 Visa Debit Card
Masters by Research Winner: $500 Visa Debit Card
Masters by Research Runner-up: $250 Visa Debit Card

The PhD Winner and Runner-up will also progress to the UniSA 3MT Grand Final where they will compete for a place in the Asia-Pacific Final. The Grand Prize in the Asia-Pacific Final is a $5,000 research travel grant.

 

2019 COMPETITION: KEY DATES

Business School Final: Thursday 11 July
UniSA Grand Final: Thursday 29 August
Asia-Pacific Final: Friday 4 October
